Project Cost Accountant Location Philadelphia, PA : Description:

I. General Summary of Position

The Project Cost Accountant is responsible for general and cost and accounting functions focusing on customer projects. This includes calculating revenue based on the percentage of completion method, tracking actual costs against forecast and budgets, and analyzing project gross margins. This position also supports the development of budgets and forecasts and will partner with multiple departments to develop and achieve operational objectives.

II. Essential Duties

  • Performs financial, general and cost accounting functions in accordance with GAAP and Company policies.
  • Calculate and analyze project revenue, costs, gross margins and variances to budgeted costs.
  • Establish processes and procedures to ensure accurate project costing.
  • Conducts standard cost development including materials, labor and overhead rates and utilizes internal and external data to establish accurate costing.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on all financial and cost modules and interfaces for the ERP system.
  • Participates in the annual budgeting, periodic forecast, and management reporting processes.

III. Supervisory/ Management Requirements

Evaluates key business challenges, directs the development of new or innovative solutions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to training new team members, planning and helping direct workload. Resolving complex projects or unusual business problems. Balancing the challenges of financial, quality and schedule to optimize long-term return for the company.

  • BS or BA in Accounting or related discipline with related work experience.
  • 5+ years experience in a manufacturing/cost accounting environment required
  • Previous experience with ERP systems required.
  • Advanced financial analysis and quantitative skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word and PowerPoint. Exceptional Excel skills required.
