Job Description

Reports to: VP of Lending

Position Purpose : The Senior Loan Specialist is primarily responsible for conducting loan interviews, advocating for the member and the credit union when submitting for underwriting decisions, and selling ancillary products. This role involves meeting with members and potential members, submitting all documentation to underwriting, and closing loans. This position requires excellent communication skills, efficiency, sales ability, and a strong understanding to compliance with all loan policies and federal and state regulations. This position does not have underwriting authority.

Job Responsibilities

Loan Interview : Conduct loan interviews with members and potential members to assess their  needs and financial situation.

Ancillary Product Sales : Promote and sell ancillary products such as credit life insurance,

disability insurance, GAP insurance, and warranties. Educate members about the benefits of

these products and how they can add value to their financial plans. Meet/exceed ancillary goals

on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis.

Loan File Preparation : Build complete loan files by gathering all required documentation,

ensuring that all necessary information is collected and entered correctly into the system to

expedite underwriting.

Underwriting : This role does not have underwriting authority but works closely with the

underwriter. Submit all loans to underwriting as quickly as possible to ensure a positive

member experience.

Lien Perfection : Ensure that lien documentation is properly signed according to the Credit

Union’s policies and legal requirements

Post- Approval Duties : After loan approval, process the loan, generate documents, obtain

signatures, book the loan in the lending system, and image all documentation following a

checklist to ensure completeness.

Collections : Back up collection efforts on delinquent loans; may be required to assist with

outbound dials to members, crafting and sending written collection notices, etc. as needed or

requested.

Loan Maintenance : Completes requests for fee and payment reversals on loans as well as

requests for loan extensions, due date changes and hardship skips.

Financial Counseling : Provide members with financial counseling to help them understand their

financial situation, improve their creditworthiness, and make informed financial decisions. Assist

members in developing plans to manage their finances effectively.

Member Education and Support : Provide members with detailed information about loan

options, insurance requirements, and the loan process. Ensure that all member inquiries are

addressed promptly and accurately.

Compliance with Loan Policies and Regulations: Ensure strict adherence to all loan policies, as

well as federal and state regulations governing lending practices. Monitor compliance

throughout the loan process and take corrective actions as necessary to maintain regulatory

standards. Follow guidelines and policies such as Bank Secrecy Act, Patriot Act, and Office of

Foreign Assets Control, CIP, Reg CC, B, D, E and Z intended to limit risk and exposure for the

organization and its members.

Adverse Actions : Ensure that all adverse action notices are issued in a timely and compliant

manner.

Training : Regularly attends and participates in training and various job-related meetings to keep

current in position knowledge. Take mandatory training courses in TLC to stay abreast of all the

regulations and guidelines. May assist in training Loan Specialists and/or other roles as

assigned.

Loan Servicing : Perform the duties of the Loan Servicer during vacation and overflow.

Branch Flexibility : Work in either branch as needed, as determined by staffing needs and VP of

Lending or CEO directives.

Other Duties : Demonstrate a commitment to learning and acceptance of change. Cross Trains in

other branch/department function as determined by Manager. Perform additional functions as

required by management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent required.

• Experience in a financial institution desired.

• Familiarity with lending policies and procedures desired.

• Strong commitment to the Credit Union’s mission.

• Basic knowledge of the Credit Union's products and services.

• Willingness to serve members and provide excellent customer service.

• Strong PC skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Portico, and

Lending Systems.

• A self-starter with creative thinking, flexibility, and sound judgment.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to track and fully complete tasks independently.

• Ability to consistently treat others with respect, uphold commitments, inspire trust, work

ethically, and maintain integrity.

• Leadership by example, attention to detail, and responsiveness to supervisory guidance.

• Commitment to achieving personal and team growth aligned with the Credit Union's sales and

culture goals.

• Working knowledge of the Credit Union's policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

• Maintain confidentiality and protect the Credit Union by safeguarding member information.
