We are seeking a visionary Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the strategic advancement of technology at QB Energy. This role integrates IT leadership, digital transformation, and operational technology (OT) innovation to reduce costs, boost efficiency, and optimize asset performance. The CTO will align technology with business goals, ensure secure and scalable infrastructure, and drive data-driven decision-making through advanced analytics and emerging technologies to enhance asset value and profitability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Innovation
- Define and implement a long-term technology roadmap aligned with company goals and industry trends.
- Drive digital transformation initiatives, including automation, data analytics, AI/ML, and IoT in field operations.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance exploration, production, and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on technology investments and innovations.
Operational Technology & Infrastructure
- Lead the optimization of SCADA systems, DCS, and production-focused technologies.
- Oversee the reliability, scalability, and cybersecurity of field and enterprise infrastructure.
- Ensure robust disaster recovery, business continuity, and data governance practices.
- Manage architecture and modernization of IT/OT systems to support field operations.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Establish and enforce cybersecurity protocols across IT and OT systems.
- Stay ahead of evolving threats and industry regulations; ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance functions to maintain adherence to regulatory and ESG-related requirements.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manages and leads IT team and function.
- Acts as CISO (Chief Information Security Officer)
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing, multidisciplinary team across IT, field automation, and technology domains.
- Supports and guides technical delivery of key digital projects from conception to realization and evolution.
- Foster a collaborative culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Implement succession planning and professional development strategies to sustain leadership pipeline.
Project & Vendor Management
- Lead complex technology programs, including cross-functional and multi-site digital initiatives.
- Oversee technology budgets, procurement, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure high-impact project delivery, risk mitigation, and measurable ROI.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with executives, business unit leaders, and field personnel to align technology with operational needs.
- Represent the company in industry forums, technology conferences, and with external partners.
Asset Optimization and Development
- Drive Efficiency & Cost Reduction: Identify opportunities to lower operating costs, optimize resource use, and streamline production across gas and water infrastructure through data analysis and operational insights.
- Enable Predictive Maintenance: Apply AI/ML to anticipate equipment failures, optimize workover schedules, improve production modeling, and reduce energy consumption.
- Enhance Asset Performance: Collaborate with technical and operational teams to leverage digital tools for improved subsurface characterization, water management, permitting, and drilling and completion efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (master’s preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of progressive technology leadership experience with hybrid skills of IT and petroleum engineering skill development.
- Deep experience in upstream oil and gas operations, including field systems, drilling, production, and asset optimization.
- Proven success and track record in digital oilfield applications, SCADA, DCS, CygNet, BOLO, and production software tools.
- Strong business acumen and ability to translate technical concepts into actionable business strategies.
Preferred Skills and Certifications
- Experience with managing cyber operation programs and setting up cyber controls per NIST or similar framework. Familiarity with MDR solutions a plus. Familiarity with compliance requirements across cybersecurity, data privacy, and environmental regulations
- Experience in managing help desks, application support, and cyber operations. Experience with IT service management framework a plus.
- Experience with agile software development methodologies and strong project management skills are a must.
- Prior experience with cloud technology, preferably MSFT Azure a plus.
- Experience implementing AI, digital twin technologies, and advanced analytics in oil and gas.
- Understanding of ESG-related technologies and emissions-reduction strategies.
- Familiarity with working with offshore and distributed IT teams.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to deal with a path forward that isn’t always well-defined.
- Change agent capable of working through implementation and adoption issues.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based, with frequent engagement across field sites and operational teams.
- Periodic travel to field locations (e.g., Parachute, CO) and industry events.
- Ability to work in a matrixed organization, translating requirements between diverse stakeholder groups.
- Flexible availability to address critical business or operational needs after hours .
